Mood of GOTO

When the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, it is said that the injured people headed to a river in a queue with their skin melted and burnt.
Although I can't be in the very situation, I saw a number of materials at the peace memorial museum and sent my own heart to the bodies broken by human beings just like me.
Torsos, body models used for making clothes, are created by standardizing women bodies into beautiful shapes. I broke them into pieces and reconstructed the wearable shapes aiming at expressing human diversity and incompleteness of our bodies.

Wearing Prayer

Wearing Prayer

Hiroshima, my hometown, lost lots of people and nature because of the atomic bomb. Nowadays many people send many folded-paper cranes from all over the world to Hiroshima with prayers for world peace. Historically humans have nature worship and we can see similar faith in connections between nature and us humans in the paper cranes.
I recycled papers of cranes as fruits of the cross-border prayers, drew patterns on them, cut into long thin strips, twisted into strings one by one with hands feeling prayers from them, weaved into cloths and made them wearable.
This artwork is for putting the prayers by humans and nature onto invisible "peace."

PEOPLE SEEKING PEACE

A fashion show held in Hiroshima on August 6th, 2018.
In order to send a message of peace, I held this show on the same day as the Peace Memorial Ceremony, invited fashion models working in Hiroshima, and set the venue to the former Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch which is one of the bombed buildings and prefectural important cultural property.
This work is created by sewing pieces of cloth, which is local children in Hiroshima drew pictures on to bring eacn of their hope as one.

coyori dress

Hiroshima, where the atomic bomb was dropped, receives tons of paper folded cranes every year as symbols of peace prayers. Some people have been making recycled papers from the cranes. I believe these papers have brought the prayers into existence again. I chopped them into strips, twisted one by one carefully into coyori in Japanese (twisted paper strips), gathered by weaving, and tailored as dresses we can put on. They are full of stories of people's hope and thoughts for peace from around the world.
